Open Graph tags test

Our new Open Graph tags test allows you to check how your customer’s websites appear when shared on social media.

What are Open Graph tags?

You’ve probably seen previews like this on social media sites. They’re shown when someone shares a link to a website.

Example of Open Graph tags being used

As a website owner, you can control how your website appears when it’s posted on Facebook with Open Graph tags. Just a few lines of code allow you to set an image, a description and more.

But it’s not just Facebook that uses these tags – they’ve become somewhat of a standard for showing rich previews on social networks and chat apps like Twitter, LinkedIn and Slack to name a few.

What does Silktide Prospect check for?

In order for a preview to be shown on Facebook, the website must contain Open Graph tags for the title, description, URL and image. If a website is missing just one of these, the preview won’t show. Silktide Prospect checks every page analysed to see if these core tags are present and presents the results clearly.

We also add a preview of how the homepage might look when shared on Facebook. This super quick visual allows you to quickly demonstrate to your client what their site looks like when their customer shares it.
