Core Web Vitals Tracker

Each month, our clients test hundreds of thousands of small business websites using our platform. Some of our clients have kindly agreed to us aggregating their data for the purpose of generating these statistics.

To avoid bias in the results, we remove websites built by our clients from the sample, since these are usually all built on the same platform, and will not be representative of the industry at large.

One of the core web vitals, “First Input Delay”, can only be measured using field techniques. In Google’s own lab tools, “Total Blocking Time” is used as a proxy equivalent.

We measure Core Web Vitals using a “lab” methodology. This means that each website is tested using Google Lighthouse, under controlled conditions.

While “field” data is more representative of real-world user experience, most small business websites do not receive enough traffic to get meaningful field data.

Additionally, by using data obtained from a controlled environment, our results are repeatable and directly comparable.

No. Our data is based on the websites which happen to be tested in our platform in a given month. Because of this, we recognise an argument could made that our comparison from month-to-month is invalid. However, in our view the sheer volume of data we see should mean any broad / long term trend is correct.
